Vets Kids, serving children ages 2 months to 5 years, is a nurturing learning oasis within a busy urban community located in the VA/New York Harbor Health Care System. Our four joyful, child-centered classrooms provide a unique and fun learning experience for each child. Our new, state of the art playground includes age-appropriate play areas for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. We enjoy interactions with the hospital and veteran community including fun and educational visits from doctors and other hospital professionals and support staff. We participate in Memorial and Veterans Day parades and veteran appreciation activities. Come visit us at Vets Kids – where the excitement of New York City inspires our children to learn, grow and most importantly, imagine.
Since 2012 we have been contracted with the New York City Department of Education as a Universal Pre-K program for four-year-olds, focusing instruction on Kindergarten preparation aligned with the New York State Common Core Learning Standards. We have a full day UPK contract.

Hours of Operation:
We are open 52 weeks a year, Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for Full-time and Part-time care.
Our center has four classrooms, an eat-in pantry area, an adjacent outdoor play area, and a garden where the children plant and tend vegetables and flowers. We also have access to meeting rooms at the Veterans Hospital that we can use for special occasions.
We are licensed by the Bureau of Child Care/NYC DOHMH, accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and endorsed by Eco-Healthy Childcare.
The children have regular outdoor playtime in our backyard play area and in nearby Asser Levy Park. They also take trips to local sites such as the supermarket and the public library. Another favorite activity is the weekly Sing-Along Assembly. We often share special events with the hospital community, including trick-or-treating, holiday song-a-longs and veteran appreciation activities.
“My daughter has grown leaps and bounds since starting at Vets Kids. The center has emphasized to my daughter how to interact within a supportive community through sharing meals, toys, attention with her friends. The teachers are caring, supportive and provide a great deal of love for my daughter; she is excited to come to school and share her life experiences outside of school with her teachers and friends. I only wish the program went through high school. “
“The staff at Imagine treats our child as one of their own. We feel confident that she is safe, loved and having fun while we are at work!”
“I love to Imagine. I think my child has become a wonderful person because of Imagine.”
