Lehman College Child Care Center

At the Lehman College Child Care Center, Imagine has provided child care services for children of Lehman College students, ages 2 – 9 years, for over 30 years. Located on a spacious historic campus, the natural landscape gives a country feel to an urban commuter campus. A new state of the art facility was opened in Fall 2013 with six classrooms, a parent study area, and a multipurpose room for gross motor play, after-school activities, and family gatherings and center celebrations. The new construction featured sustainable design elements including a lobby atrium with skylights, maximizing natural sunlight in the classrooms. An on-site natural playground features greenery and a garden space along with age-appropriate playground equipment.

The center focus is to help children learn, grow, and have fun, while fostering active parent involvement in all aspects of the children’s experiences here. What better place to encourage educational growth and development than on a college campus. The children may be the present and future learners of the Lehman community

The center includes a New York City Department of Education Pre-K For All classroom for four-year-olds, focusing instruction on Kindergarten preparation aligned with the New York State Common Core Learning Standards.

Hours of Operation: The center is open Monday – Thursday 7:30 am – 9:00 pm for Full and Part-time schedules in day, after-school and evening classes, 7:30 am – 5:30 pm on Friday. Saturdays and Sundays programs are available when there is sufficient need and enrollment.

Facilities:

The center is located on the Lehman College campus and consists of six spacious classrooms, a multipurpose room and a soon to be enclosed outdoor natural playground.

The center is licensed by the NYC DOHMH/Bureau of Child Care, accreditated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and endorsed by Eco-Healthy Child Care Organization.

Special Activities:

The center is located on the beautiful Lehman College campus. Our excellent working relationship with the college includes access to resources in many college departments, including Music, Speech and Hearing, and Counseling. There is an active Parent Advisory Board that helps plan center events and activities including parent education workshops on such topics as Early Literacy, Behavior Management and Child Development.
