Matching Numbers Using Reused Materials

Written by: Imagine Early Learning Centers

Math learning can also be an opportunity to talk about caring for our environment. In this activity, children practiced number recognition while reusing everyday classroom materials.

Materials Needed

  • Reused paper cups
  • Black marker

How the Activity Works

Paper cups are labeled with numerals and matching dot patterns. Children match each numeral to the cup with the correct number of dots. Teachers encourage children to say the number aloud as they count.

What Children Are Learning

Children practice number recognition, one to one correspondence, and counting. They also learn that materials can be reused in creative and meaningful ways.
