Written by: Imagine Early Learning Centers

Creative tools can make math learning more engaging. In this activity, children used a homemade wand to explore counting and number recognition while strengthening fine motor control.

Materials Needed

  • Popsicle stick with a bottle cap attached
  • Board with numbers
  • Tissue paper balls

How the Activity Works

Children use the wand to move tissue paper balls onto numbered spaces, matching the quantity of balls to each numeral.

What Children Are Learning

Children develop fine motor skills, number recognition, and counting. This activity can also support early addition and comparing quantities.
