Building Fine Motor Skills Through Counting

Written by: Imagine Early Learning Centers

Strong hands help children succeed in many areas of learning. This activity combines fine motor development with counting as children use playful tools to move and count small objects.

Materials Needed

  • Tennis balls with holes
  • Counting bears or Unifix cubes
  • Numbered cups

How the Activity Works

Children squeeze the tennis ball to open it like a mouth, pick up small objects, and place them into numbered cups while counting aloud.

What Children Are Learning

Children build hand strength, counting skills, and number recognition while improving focus and coordination.
